Re: New York Islanders Trade Rumors 2010
The big trading chip that Islanders GM, Garth Snow, has is Marty Biron.
Biron has an expiring contract which is attractive in the cap era that's also a cap-friendly $1.4 million dollars.
Biron will be headed down to the AHL for a conditioning stint with DiPietro back in the lineup for the Islanders.
Scotty Burnside and Pierre Lebrun discuss the Biron trade possibilities, link:
Biron and Turco, Who will be on the move?
It sounds like Garth Snow has yet to be offered anything better than a 3rd round pick for Biron.
Apparently, there's some interest in Biron from the LA Kings who have two young, rookie goaltenders. However, the Kings are more focused on Ilya Kovalchuk right now.
I'm surprised that Biron hasn't gone anywhere yet. Obviously the initial intent for Garth Snow was to have Biron used as trade bait near the NHL trade deadline once DiPietro returned from injury. So far, that hasn't worked out as well as expected.
