The story of Jack Jablonski, a prep hockey star from Minnesota, has shocked and saddened the hockey community.

Jablonski was paralyzed after he was accidentally checked from behind during a Holiday Hockey Classic Tournament on Friday night against Wayzata (Minn.) High. The 16-year-old hockey star was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center and under went surgery this morning to fuse the damaged vertebrae he sustained during Friday’s game.

Since the news of Jablonski’s injury spread and outpouring of support has come from the hockey community. Current and former NHL players, coaches and owners have reached out the Jablonski family through the Caring Bridge page they set up in his name. Among those who’ve reached out is Islanders forward and Minnesota native Kyle Okposo.

Okposo wasn’t the only player with an Islander connection to reach out in support. Former Islander defensemen Jack Hillen and Zdeno Chara also left messages of support.
