Senators Vs Islanders 2-20-12 | February

-Greetings from the Nassau Coliseum Press Box and Happy Presidents day to all!

-The presidents are in the house today. Honest Abe says hello.

-A blurry George Washington

- Thomas Jefferson gives us a wave.

- Long Island's own Teddy Ro...... Hey thats Quackerjack in today's game.

- There's Teddy Rosovelt

First Period

20:00- Game Time folks

18:52- Senators score off a fluky goal from the left side of the net. Karlsson credited with the goal unassisted.

18:25- Sens score to make it 2-0 less than a minute in. Jason Spezza with the goal.

12:25- The Islanders have been getting badly outworked for the better part of this period. A John Tavares wrist shot was the best Islanders chance this period. With that being said, the Islanders have been starting to get the puck into the Ottawa zone.

9:27- Jared Cowen gets called for tripping. The Islanders will get their first power play of the game.

???- PA Paerenteau kills of the Islanders power play by taking slashing penalty.

5:57- Karlsson scores once to give the Senators a 3-0 lead. Shot goes five-hole.

End of 1st Senators 3 Islanders 0

First Intermission

The Islanders came out flat to start the game and the Senators took full advantage. Two goals by Karlsson highlight the period along with a Jason Spezza goal in between.  There is not much to say about how the Islanders played in that period other than uninspired. They need this win in the worst way and came up empty.

Second Period

17:18- Senators still seem to be controling the game. Though not as much as they were in the first.

12:38- The Islanders have managed to keep the puck in the Senators zone more and have had the created scoring chances. But haven't produced on it.

12:07- Kyle Turris shot gobbled up by Al Montoya.

10:23- Chris Phillips scores on the power play to make it 4-0. They had just gone on power play thanks to a delay of game called on Steve Staios.

15,818 is this afternoons attendance.

7:01- Matt Martin dropped the gloves with Zack Smith. The loudest Nassau Coliseum got all afternoon.

4:06- Senators called for too many men on the ice.

2:29- Islanders power play ends with 24 seconds left. Nino Niederrieter goes to the box for tripping. Islanders did not play with urgency on the power play.

.29- Islanders kill off the penalty on Nino.

End of the 2nd Senators 4 Islanders 0.

Second intermission

Another dissapointing period is in the books. The Islanders managed just five shots through the period and allowed, what most likely was the nail in the coffin, goal. While the Islanders play improved slightly, it was more of the same, with the Senators controling the play and Chris Phillips eventually burying a shot on the power play.

Third Period

16:44- The Islanders have had two scoring chances, but didn't do much with them.

16:35- Matt Martin nearly sneaks one threw the legs of Anderson.

12:00- Some back and forth as far as puck possesion goes. Nothing new to report really.

11:00- Islanders have taken 10 shots so far this period.
10:11- Brian Lee scores for the Senators to make it 5-0.

9:34- Jay Pandolfo given a 2 minute minor for hooking and PA Parenteau was ejected for mouthing off to the ref earlier.

9:03- Jason Spezza blasts a shot, top shelf, past Montoya and makes it 6-0.

5:47- Islanders nearly break the shutout.

5:20- Islanders have a power play with Foligno in the box.

3:00- Heading down early.

Final Senators 6 Islanders 0
