The Islanders announced plans to commemorate the 40th anniversary season this year, which includes inducting four new members into the Islanders Hall of Fame; Ed Westfall, Ken Morrow, Patrick Flatley, and Kenny Jonsson.

The four players will be inducted on separate nights over the course of the season. Westfall will be inducted on November 19 against the Boston Bruins, Morrow’s night will be on December 31 against the Edmonton Oilers, Flatley will be honored on January 14 against the Buffalo Sabres, and Jonsson will be inducted on February 11 against the Los Angeles Kings. The team has dubbed the previously named dates as “Decade Nights.” There are two additional dates that are also included in “Decade Nights,” the season opener against the Panthers on October 8 and the October 29 games against the San Jose Sharks.

The season opener will feature “various in-game activities and video tributes” cover the teams 40 years in existence and will also feature special pre-game festivities for fans who have been season ticket holders since the teams inception. On the October 29 Islanders alumni will be in attendance for that evening’s game.

In addition to the Islanders will have a special 40th anniversary logo painted on at center ice and a special twitter hash tag for the season, #Isles40th.
