The Islanders just can’t catch a break this season (or the past 17 seasons) and last night is no exception. In one what can only be described as a freak accident, Kevin Poulin caught his skate in a rut on the ice during pre-game warm ups and left with an injury. Today it was announced that Poulin will be lost for the rest of the season with a dislocated left knee.
The news comes after the Islanders have already lost Rick Dipietro and Nathan Lawson to IR. Lawson was skating today but there is no date set on when he can return.
With the string of goalie injuries rumors are swirling that the Islanders could make a play at a goaltender via the trade market. One name mentioned has been Leafs net minder Jonas Gustavsson. However a trade for the Leaf goaltender would not make sense since Gustavsson left last night’s Marlies game with an elevated heart rate. Gustavsson has battled a heart condition since he’s arrived in the NHL.
