Bridgeport Sound Tigers Goalie Joel Martin

With Rick Dipietro out for 4-6 months with two separate injuries and Nathan Lawson also out with an injury the Islanders were left without someone to back up Kevin Poulin. Now it seems the Islanders may have found their back up in Joel Martin, who was signed to a one year, two way contract this afternoon.

Martin was on a try out contract with the Bridgeport sound Tigers prior to this afternoons signing and appeared in five games with the team. During his five appearances he was 1-3 with a 2.99 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. Prior to his stint in Bridgeport he was with the Central Hockey League’s Odessa Jackalopes.

Once Martin was signed he was sent to Bridgeport Immediately meaning Isles GM Garth Snow could call up Mikko Koskinin, if he hasn’t already, for tomorrow’s game. One of the two will be on a ferry bound for Long Island tomorrow for Long Island, just a matter of who gets a shot.

On a closing note after doing a little Youtube research, here is a clip of Joel Martin engaging in a fight with Cedrick Desjardins during his days in the ECHL. (Spoiler Alert: Martin does a lot better than Ricky did with Brett Johnson.)
