Traditionally, in October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, many NHL players incorporate pink stick tape, gloves, et cetera, into their uniform to raise awareness of the cause.
Islanders netminder Rick DiPietro showed off a new set of pink goalie pads, and a corresponding pink glove and blocker pad set.
He noted: “This whole month is breast cancer awareness month, and my wife’s aunt actually passed away from breast cancer so it’s something that we wanted to do, Bauer’s done a great job accommodating me. [...] I also wear the ribbon on my mask."
Dwayne Roloson, although only decking out his goalie stick in pink, is sporting a brand-new mask; it’s predominantly orange, with a big Islanders logo in front, pictures of past Islander goalies on the sides, and “ROLI” etched across the chin.
