The Isles have apparently offered forward Lee Stempniak a 3 year deal worth 9.5 million. The 6'0, 195 pound left winger recorded 48 points, netting 28 goals and 20 helpers. There was always been rumor, since the beginning of July, that the Isles were looking at him. Now, it seems like there's a chance he will sign with them. HockeyFuzz (Not Hockeybuzz) reported today, and I got it confirmed by HockeyJunkYard, via Twitter, after he talked to sources on the phone.
I personally think Stempniak would be great for the Isles since we lost quite amount of players that totaled about 30 goals, according to Dee Karl. Now, with the signings of Jurcina, Eaton, Parenteau, Wisniewski, Konopka, and Yablonski, they only total 12. With Stempniak on the Isles, he can add to that number and I could see him making great progress.
A Stempniak signing is likely to happen in the next two weeks, sources say. Let's just hope the Isles grab him and then we'll be looking forward to seeing him in those nice retro jerseys come opening night.
More to come as IHB gathers information.
