Five Teams From Each Conference Have Clinched Playoffs | April
logo

As of today, April 4th, 2010, the Western and Eastern Conferences have five teams clinched, the East has the Capitals, at 114 points, the Devils at 97 points, the Sabres at 96 points. that rounds out the division leaders. Then you have the Penguins and Senators who have clinched. Then you have the Western Conference, where you have the Sharks at 106 points, the Blackhawks at 103 points, and the Canucks at 98 points, all division leaders. Then you also have the Coyotes and Predators who also clinched.

Today in the Western Conference, the Red Wings lost to the Flyers in a 4-3 game. They could have clinched a playoff birth, but they lost, so depending on the Blackhawks-Flames game, if the Blackhawks win, it would give the Hawks their first Division title since the 1992-1993 season. But if the Blackhawks win, that also means that the Red Wings would clinch a spot, despite losing, and also that would mean the LA Kings, despite not playing today, would also be in. That would mean 7 of 8 teams would be in the playoffs as of today, depending on the Blackhawks, if they win.

Also, the Washington Capitals could be the President Trophy winners if San Jose loses today to a Avalanche team that is desperate for a playoff spot fighting with the Flames for the 8th seed. The Capitals year round have been a star team. With Alexander the Great Ovechkin, and Backstrom and Semin, and Green, the Capitals are the favorites to win the Cup in my mind, the only question marks are the goalies.

Finally, in the West, the Sharks with the number one seed are not the favorites to win the West in my mind at all. My feeling is, the Red Wings will come through for the 3rd straight year, and win it. I feel that maybe because their my 2nd favorite team, and I watch them all the time, but I would love to see Henrik Zetterburg, and Jimmy Howard go to another Cup. Well, just to let you all know, I will be covering the Capitals, and the Red Wings, [pending a playff spot] this postseason. Lastly, I will be putting a post up once everyone clinches about what I think about each round, and what will happen in my mind, thank you!
