Okposo, Moulson, Tavares lift the Isles over the Rags, 3-1

The Islanders/Rangers is always a game fierce intensity and brings the best out of both teams. Tonight it was our best that won out, The confident play, the outstanding penalty kill and great play by every one from Kyle Okposo (tonight's second star) to Dwayne Roloson (tonight's first star). The Islanders managed to do something they have not done all year, hold a third period lead and win in regulation.

It was a quick start for the Islanders, who seemed determined to win tonight. It took just 55 seconds for the Islanders to jump on the board as Matt Moulson broke free and beat Henrik Lundqvist to give the Isles the 1-0 lead. The Rangers would turn the tide though picking up play and pressuring the Roloson and the Islanders. Then at 8:50 PA Parenteau backhanded one past Roloson to tie the game at one. The Islanders tied resilient continueing to play aggressively and getting to the front of the net, creating scoring chances. Andy Sutton would end the period with two bone rattling hits on Prospal and Callihan eliciting loud cheers from the Islanders fans in the crowd. The Rangers came out in the second trying to untie the game and almost did as Callihan and Prospal charged the net passing the puck back and forth until Callihan tried to bury thr shot but hit the side of the net. Then the Rangers had another chance, this time Lesin hit the crossbar from the top of the blue line. The Isles held composure though, sticking to the fast paced go-go style of play while still playing patient hockey. It soon payed off, following a hooking call on Sean Avery the Islanders' Kyle Okposo was able to bury Jack Hillen's rebound past Ludqvist to put the Islanders on top 2-1.

The Confident Islanders continued their play into the third period just 20 minutes away from a regulation win. John Tavares garenteed an Islanders win after he bounced one off Henrik and into the net giving the Islanders a 3-1 lead with just 5:06 remaining in the game. The attention of the fans would turn from the action on the ice to off it as fights broke out through out the coliseum for the remander of the game, I'm sure security was buisy tonight.

The Islanders finally came away with 2 points in regulation and defeted the hated Rangers at the same time. The penalty kill went 5 for 5 killing every Rangers power play, Okposo finally scored his second goal of the season, Matt Moulson continued to produce for the Isles netting his 6th of the season, Roloson stoped 34 of the 35 shots he faced, and John Tavares ended his points/scoring drought netting his 4th of the season. Hopefully tonight is the start of a new beginning for the Isles, Here we come Washington.
