Miracle on Hempstead Turnpike, Isles win 4-3

It took seven games but the Islanders have finally won this season. Thanks to the quick hands of Jeff Tamballini, Frans Nielson and of course, JOHN TAVARES the Isles salveged another third period collapse and won in the shootout, along with a much improved Dwayne Roloson.

It would be the Islanders who would once again have all the advantages in the first, with several scoring chances and one that became the Islanders first goal. At 8:11 Andy Sutton fed Matt Moulson in front of the net to give the Islanders the 1-0 lead, along with giving Moulson his fifth goal of the season. Later in the first Bredon Witt and Scott Walker would drop the gloves in front of the Isles net. Witt would be pumbled by Walker before finally getting a few good jabs in, then getting wrestled down to the ice.

The second rolled around with the Islanders still up by one, however it would not last long. At 4:19 Blake Comeau would go to the box for interference giving the Canes the power play and they delivered. With 45 seconds remaining on the Comeau penelty Matt Cullen banked a shot off of Jack Hillen's skate and into the net to tie the game at 1. The Islanders kept their compsure though and nearly five minutes later they took the lead back as Tim Jackmen redirect a shot past Cam Ward. A minute and change later Andy Sutten would bat one past Ward to make it 3-1 Islanders.

The Third rolled around and every one was feeling good as the Islanders came back out with a two goal lead. It would turn our to be a game changeing one, to start John Tavares got laid out in the left corner and seemed to be hurt for a minute. Andy Sutten went to his aid and pumbled the loser who gave the dirty hit prompting the reffs to give Sutton a two minute minor for roughing. Then with alittle over six minutes left in the game Eric Staal scored cutting the lead to one, followed by a goal by Jussi Jokinen to tie the game forcing overtime.

Overtime came and went with no game winning goals, just missed oppertunities including one big one by Kyle Okposo and Mark Striet. So we went to a shoot out, Dwayne Roloson's kryptonite. First shoot was Jeff Tamballini, he burried his shot. Next was Sergei Samsonov, he was denid by Roli (THANK GOD). Then came Frans Nielson, he shoots and scores! Unfortunatly so did Jussi Jokinen, putting the game on the shoulders of John Tavares. John Tavers skated to the net deked then put it pas Cam Ward to win the game.

While it took seven games the Islanders finally did win a game, before the Maple Leafs might i add. Andy Sutton looked outstanding along with the newly formed fourth line, Matt Moulson continued his hot streak, Frans Nielson helped contribute on his first game back, and of course John Tavares won the game for the Isles in the shoot out only the Islanders could pull this off. Let's savor the moment cause it's off to Montreal next.
