In a night dedicated to honoring the military, the Islanders declared war on Ondrej Pavelec and the Atlanta Thrashers. Chasing him from his net and tieing or break several season highs including post their first 40 plus shots on goal game.

The 14,119 fans that showed up tonight were treated to an offensive spectacle, 45 shots on goal, six goals and six different Islanders scored.

The first opened with the Islanders going on the offensive, creating scoring opportunities and it eventually paid off. At 9:11, John Tavares feed Andy Sutton, who back handed the shot past Pavelec to give the Islanders the 1-0 lead. The Thrashers would be quick to respond though, alittle over three minutes later Zach Bogosian was able to net his sixth goal of the season after firing a wrist shot past Roloson from the blue line making it 1-1. The Islanders would answer back just a minute later as Sean Bergenheim scored his first of the season off a Freddy Meyer rebound giving the Islanders a 2-1 lead. Then with the Thrashers and Islanders going four on four Jack Hillen fired one past Pavelec to get his first goal of the season and giving the Isles a two goal cushion. The Isles out shot the Thrashers 21-11 in the first and score board reflected it. The Islanders would continue their offensive dominance into the second as Blake Comeau would score his first of the season just 22 seconds into the period. moments later Freddy Meyer would get called for hooking at 1:39 giving the Thrashers highly rated power play an opportunity a chance to bring the Thrashers back into the game. Pavel Kubina scored to make it a two goal game just after the power play ended. The Islanders would get that back though, John Tavares swooped behind the net pushing off the Thrashers player then feeding Moulson who fired it home to make it 5-2 Islanders.

The third rolled around and it looked as if the Islanders might be losing steam. The Thrasher switched goalies and came out pressuring the Islanders, forcing Roloson to make some big saves. It would pay off at 12:03 as Christoph Schubert scored to bring the Thrashers back within two. The period was coming to its closing when  Pavel Kubina got called for hooking, which he was not to happy about, and then got called for Unsportsmanlike conduct for mouthing off to the refs. The Islanders had the power play for next for minutes with alittle over five minutes remaining in the game. So with 2:44 remaining on the Power play Josh Bailey fired one past Hedberg sealing the Islanders 6-3 win.

Roloson got his fifth win as an Islander, the Islanders had 45 shots on goal, Bergenhiem and Blake Comeau both got goals, and the Islanders once again put on an impressive performance on home ice to bring them back to .500.
